Mountain Biking the Tucson Trails

[slider_pro id="1"]   For years now I've been hearing and reading some good stories about the Tucson Trails, and although I had tried a couple of times to fit Tucson into my list of destinations, it never panned out.. until this time. While on one of the Moab Trails in October, I got talking with two fellow Mountain Bikers [ Doug & Bill ] They were a wealth of information about Mountain Biking Trails throughout the USA, which also included the Tucson Trails. As luck has it, when I … [Read more...]

Sovereign Trail 2011

Last year this was my last ride in Moab, I crashed on the last mile of the Sovereign Trail cracking some ribs and my sternum. As it happened, it turned out that this would also be my last Moab ride for 2011 as well, luckily for me though, this was not due to a crash. This time around I made it around the Sovereign Trail in one piece.   Trail Stats & Information Sovereign Trail Nearby Town: Moab Length: 15.45 miles : there are numerous options to lengthen or … [Read more...]

Pipe Dream Moab

Last year October this trail did not exist, and I was pleasantly surprised to have a +10 mile singletrack at my doorstep. I did the Pipe Dream all the way, from Hidden Valley to Aspen Street  and back. Having the smell of Burger King follow me all the way was not easy, knowing that it would only be a 5 min detour to add Burger King or McDonalds to the trail. This time I did not give in to temptation, but it was very difficult.     Trail Stats & … [Read more...]

Hidden Valley onto Moab Rim Trail 2011

The Hidden Valley onto Moab Rim is one of my Moab favorites. This trail offers fantastic scenery, a very remote feeling without being remote ( if anything goes wrong, it's no more than a 1.5 hour walk to civilization). The Hidden Valley onto Moab Rim trail offers everything the big trails offer, such as Porcupine. The trail can be looped, or as an out and back. This trail offers the longest and steepest slickrock downhill section, almost a mile of solid mental 22 percent … [Read more...]

May Valley and Hurkey Creek Trails Epic

My first attempt to ride the "24 hour loop" went a bit pear shaped, and I missed the turn off to Rage through the Sage and Tunnel of Love. While getting my steed fixed up, I got a lot of useful trail intel from the shop owner. The trails he marked for me on a very basic map were some local secrets, and there is no way I would have been able to ride them without this inside intel. The good thing was, I managed to map a loop that included the Rage through the Sage and Tunnel of … [Read more...]

The Highline Trail Sedona

. This is the first ever ride in the USA that I have not done solo. For this ride I needed a guide, 'cos there is no way I could have otherwise experienced this trail. Although once on the Highline Trail, it is easy to follow, but finding this trail as an "outsider" would be almost impossible. Luckily for me, and for anyone else visiting, Sedona has a fantastic self confessed Mtb Ambassador who is more than willing to take you "on a ride" ( in the good sense) I would really like to thank … [Read more...]

Sovereign Trail Moab

. This is the first time I have actually ridden the Sovereign Trail, although I have been to the trailhead twice before, but each time it was too busy for my liking. They say the first time is always the best, but in this case I'm not so sure. Just  minutes from finishing the trail I produced the "Mother of all Endo's" , Endo'in off a 4 ft legdge  and finishing the Sovereign Trail by cracking my Sternum as a souvenir  ... Luvly Jubly !! . Trail Stats & Information Sovereign … [Read more...]

The Portal Trail Moab

. The Portal Trail in Moab is known to be the most deadliest trail in the USA, is this justified or is it just a hype? I have done this trails numerous times, either looping the Poison Spider Mesa Trail, or as a Point to Point coming up Gold Bar Rim Trail. So, is the Portal Trail really as scary & dangerous as everyone makes out?... Is the Portal Trail dangerous ? YES Is the Portal Trail Deadly ? If you fall on certain section of this Trail then definitely. Is the … [Read more...]

Cold Creek to Star Lake to Armstrong Pass down Corral Trail

. A few days a did the Heavenly Valley from Stagecoach to Armstrong Pass, it was a slaughter, but the downhill section from Freel Pass all the way down Armstrong was probably the best ride / section I have ever done. I did not want to leave Lake Tahoe without enjoying this section one more time.  However, there was no way I wanted to get slaughtered again on the Stagecoach to Freel Pass section, so I decided on a different route that was hopefully gonna be slightly, or even better a hell of … [Read more...]

Owenhouse Bicycling and Fitness Bozeman

A day before I did one of my rides in Bozeman, I went through my camelbak to check all my spare parts. I have made it a habit to carry 2 of everything I might need to at least get me off the trail if anything happens to my bike. I noticed that I only had one spare derailleur hanger, so I wanted to get a second. It was for a Giant, so I needed a Giant dealer. With a bit of research I found that Owenhouse Bicycling & Fitness in Bozeman was my best bet. Straight from my ride the next day … [Read more...]
